The first LignoSat is small and useless – it is a cube with 10 cm sides made of magnolia wood. It carries the simplest of equipment so that scientists can track its movements in space. The LignoSat is expected to be sent to the ISS, from where it will be launched into space next September. Scientists want to thoroughly test their design before launching full-fledged wooden satellites into orbit.
