Poisonous pesticides could be replaced by hydrogel with worms

In trials for which the nematodes were genetically modified to attack caterpillars, the gel reduced pest infestation by 50% compared to control plots, resulting in an extra tonne of maize per hectare. The commercial version of the hydrogel is expected to be cheaper than pesticides, and it will not be harmful to people or the environment.
